Award Winning New Community Shop and Café for Freshford Village.
Freshford village shop and café was a community driven and funded project which has created a successful new community hub for the Somerset village. The simple architectural form was built to high passive standards with a well-insulated timber frame enclosing a tall ceilinged space with large glazed panels at the ridge providing natural ventilation and abundant daylight.

The shop and café have thrived and the community has subsequently installed a ground mounted PV installation to power the shop and extended the café. Hetreed Ross worked with Ken Biggs Contractors Ltd on the Design Build contract from an original design by David Thurlow.
This project was a finalist in the LABC Awards for 2010 for Best Small Commercial Development in the south west region.

The simple architectural form was built to high passive standards with a highly insulated timber frame enclosing a high ceilinged space with large glazed panels at the ridge providing natural ventilation and daylight. Waste heat from freezers and chillers is the only heat source making the building very energy efficient.
